Bayard Donates Frisbees to American Heart Association's Start! Wilmington Heart Walk, Promoting Healthy Exercise for Pet Owners

Bayard P.A., a Meritas® member law firm based in Wilmington Delaware, announced today that it has donated 4,000 Frisbees to the American Heart Association’s Start! Wilmington Heart Walk, in promotion of heart-healthy exercise for pet owners, who, in the company of their canines, account for many of the participants in the annual event.  The Heart Walk, set for 9am on September 13 at Dravo Plaza (Wilmington Riverfront) on South Madison Street, aims to raise awareness and funds to fight cardiovascular disease, the No. 1 cause of death in Delaware and the country.

“We were looking for a creative way for our firm and the Bayard Walk Team to be involved in this important event, to raise awareness and funding to fight cardiovascular disease right here in our community,” said Douglas Hershman, a director and President of Bayard, P.A.  “These child and pet-safe Frisbees are a fun way to send a message and encourage individual action through exercise that is free to all—and fun.  We look forward to joining in the walk, along with our colleagues, friends, families, and Fido,” he said.

According to the American Heart Association, every minute, cardiovascular disease—including heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers—take the lives of two people.  Through the annual Heart Walk, an event which takes place in communities nationwide, walkers help ensure funding for research to enable miracle cures and the knowledge to fight cardiovascular disease.  Because a sedentary lifestyle is one of the leading risk factors for heart disease, the American Heart Walk emphasizes the importance of regular exercise in maintaining a healthy heart.

“The Frisbees graciously donated by Bayard for the Wilmington Walk this year will make an unexpected and innovative addition to our doggie gift bags, translating to activity for everyone,” stated Sharon Schuh, Sr. Director of the local American Heart Association. “Getting out and walking, running or even playing in the park with your dog is a way to get that 30 minutes a day of movement that is so necessary, and much more enjoyable when a member of ‘family’ is participating as well.”

Bayard, P.A., a Wilmington, Delaware-based firm, provides legal services in commercial lending, commercial and residential real estate, entity formation, insurance law, family law, tax, estate planning and estate administration, as well as nationally recognized legal services in commercial bankruptcy, corporate and commercial litigation, intellectual property, and securitization and structured finance.
