Bayard Selected as Co-Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of American Apparel, LLC

Bayard has been selected to serve as co-counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors (the “Committee”) in In re American Apparel, LLC (Case No.: 16-12551 (BLS)) filed on November 14, 2016, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. This is the second time American Apparel has filed for protection under chapter 11 in as many years, having emerged from its previous chapter 11 filing on February 5, 2016. The Office of the United States Trustee formed the Committee on November 22, 2016. After its formation, the Committee selected Cooley LLP and Bayard, P.A. as its legal counsel. Bayard attorneys Justin R. Alberto, the lead director for Bayard’s representation, and associates Evan T. Miller and Gregory J. Flasser are involved in the representation.

American Apparel operates a manufacturing, distribution and retail business in the fashion apparel industry. The current iteration of the company was founded in 1998 in Los Angeles, and at its height in the 2000s was one of the largest clothing makers in the U.S. Today, the company has 110 retail and outlet stores in 28 states and Washington, D.C., an e-commerce website at www.americanapparel.com and approximately 4,700 employees across three active manufacturing facilities, one distribution facility and the 110 stores.
