WILMINGTON, Del. – May 4, 2010 – Bayard P.A. announced today that Douglas M. Hershman, a director with the firm and Chair of its Executive and Associates committees, has been appointed as Chair of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Delaware, the local arm of the national organization which sets and upholds high standards for fair and honest business behavior.
A member of the Delaware BBB’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors since 2008, Hershman’s one-year term as Chairperson is effective immediately. He replaces Joe Amon, now serving as Immediate Past Chair of the Delaware organization.
“I am honored to accept this role with the Delaware BBB and to continue working with the BBB’s staff and Board of Directors,” said Hershman. “The BBB is an advocate for marketplace trust, working hard to act as a mutually trusted intermediary to resolve disputes, facilitate communication between businesses and consumers, and set ethical business standards. As the economy recovers, it is important that Delaware is provided a community of trustworthy businesses.”
A director with Bayard for more than ten years, Hershman leads the firm’s diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice includes representations of both buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, as well as borrowers in financing transactions. Hershman also represents lenders making commercial real estate loans.
Hershman has been actively involved in the Delaware State Bar Association’s Real and Personal Property Section, having previously served as a Chairman and member of its Executive Committee. He also serves on the Board of the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO) and as a Life Director to the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE).
Hershman has been consistently recognized as a leading attorney in the field of real estate law by Delaware Super Lawyers from 2007 through 2009 and by Chambers USA from 2006 through 2009. Additionally, he was listed among Lawdragon 3000 Leading Lawyers in America for 2006, 2007, and 2009.
Hershman graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.A., magna cum laude, in 1983, and earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1986.
