Bayard's Douglas M. Hershman Named Vice Chairman of the
Delaware Better Business Bureau
Bayard P.A. announced today that Douglas M. Hershman, a director with the firm and Chair of its executive and marketing committees, has been appointed as Vice Chairperson of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Delaware, the local arm of the national organization which sets and upholds high standards for fair and honest business behavior.
A member of the Delaware BBB's Executive Committee and Board of Directors since 2008, his one-year term as Vice Chairperson is effective immediately. He replaces Joe Amon, now serving as Chairperson of the Delaware organization.
"I look forward to continuing to serve the Delaware business community with Joe, the members of the Board of Directors, and BBB's staff over the course of the next year," said Hershman. "BBB Accredited Businesses contractually agree to established high standards of ethical business behavior. These ethical guidelines are even more important for businesses to recognize and adhere to in the face of challenges and hardships posed by the current state of the economy."
A director with Bayard for more than ten years, Mr. Hershman leads the firm's diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice has included representations of both buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, and borrowers in financing transactions. Doug also represents lenders making commercial real estate loans. He handles transactions involving both commercial and residential properties, including retail shopping centers, office buildings, apartment complexes and residential subdivisions.
Mr. Hershman is a member of Delaware State Bar Association's Real and Personal Property Section, and previously served three terms as Chairman of the Section and many years as a member of its Executive Committee. He is actively involved in the Home Builders Association of Delaware and currently serves on its Board of Directors and as Secretary of the Association. He is a past recipient of the Associate Member of the Year award from the Association. He also continues to serve on the Board of the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO).
Mr. Hershman has been recognized as a leading attorney in the field of real estate law by both Chambers USA in 2006, 2007, and 2008, and Delaware Super Lawyers in 2007 and 2008. Additionally, Mr. Hershman was listed among Lawdragon's 3000 Leading Lawyers in America for 2006 and 2007, and was a finalist for Lawdragon's 500 Leading Lawyers in America for 2007. He is Second Vice President and a member of the Board of Governors of the University & Whist Club of Wilmington, Delaware, and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau's binding arbitration program for real estate disputes.
He received his B.A., magna cum laude form the University of Delaware in 1983 and his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1986.
