Bayard’s Kara M. Swasey Elected Chair of Family Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association

Bayard, P.A., a Meritas® member law firm based in Wilmington Delaware, announced today that attorney Kara M. Swasey has been elected to Chair of the Family Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association. She previously served as Vice Chair and Secretary of the Section.

Kara M. Swasey joined Bayard in 2007 and concentrates her practice in the areas of family law, including divorce, custody, child support, adoption, guardianship, and protection from abuse cases. Kara also provides litigation support to the Firm’s bankruptcy, corporate, real estate, and commercial law practices. In 2011, Kara completed an intensive professional training program in family law advocacy at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Family Law Advocacy Institute. Kara is admitted to practice law in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

“Kara’s involvement in a leadership position with the DSBA continues a long standing Bayard tradition of service to the Bar,” says Douglas M. Hershman, President of the firm and former DSBA Executive Committee member. Bayard attorneys have served or currently serve as President; Executive Committee member; Chairs of the Family Law, Taxation, Real and Personal Property Law, Commercial Law, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property, and Bankruptcy Law, Sections; and, members of the Partnership and LLC, Power of Attorney, Statutory Trust Fiduciary Access to Accounts, and Race Judicata Committees.

Active in the Delaware legal community, Kara also serves on the Executive Committee of the Melson Arsht Inn of Court. She volunteers for Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, the Domestic Violence Advocacy Program, and the Office of the Child Advocate. Kara also served as an attorney coach for the St. Mark’s High School Mock Trial Team and participated as a scoring judge in the National Mock Trial Championship held in Wilmington, Delaware, in May 2008.

Kara graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelors of Science in 2004 and earned a J.D./M.B.A. from Villanova University School of Law in 2007.
