Scott Cousins Joins Bayard as a Director

Bayard, P.A., a Meritas® member law firm based in Wilmington Delaware, announced today that Scott D. Cousins has joined the firm as a Director.

Scott has over 20 years of experience in the restructuring field. He has participated in many of the largest and most complicated business reorganizations, out-of-court restructurings, workouts, liquidations and distressed sales and acquisitions in Delaware’s state and federal courts. He has also appeared in many bankruptcy jurisdictions across the country. In addition to his restructuring expertise, Scott has wide-ranging experience in commercial transactions derived, not only from his 15 years in private practice but from his role as in-house counsel for two large energy related companies.

From 2005 to early 2009, Scott served as General Counsel of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, a clean energy leader and one of the largest competitive energy suppliers in North America. At NextEra, Scott oversaw all legal aspects of the company’s activities. Before entering private practice in 1996, Scott worked in the corporate legal department for The Columbia Gas System, Inc., where he focused primarily on the chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of Columbia and its subsidiary, Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation, until they successfully emerged from bankruptcy protection in 1995.

In connection with the announcement, Neil Glassman, chairman of the firm, observed, “Scott’s arrival expands our platform and presence in our bankruptcy and transactional practice areas. Without a doubt, Scott will enhance our existing expertise and help us grow our already highly-regarded practices.”

Scott states, “I’m excited to join Bayard. I believe my background will complement its well-established bankruptcy and insolvency practice and its sophisticated entity law and Chancery practices. I’m proud to practice with the firm’s uniquely qualified business lawyers.”

Bayard, P.A. has nationally recognized practices in commercial restructuring, and corporate and commercial litigation, commercial transactions, intellectual property, securitization, structured finance, and insurance insolvencies.
