Douglas M. Hershman (Doug) is a director at Bayard. Doug currently serves as Chair of the firm’s executive and associates committees.
Doug leads the firm’s diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice has included representations of both buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, as well as borrowers in financing transactions. Doug also represents lenders making commercial real estate loans. He handles transactions involving both commercial and residential properties, including retail shopping centers, office buildings, apartment complexes and residential subdivisions. He is a licensed issuing agent for Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation and Stewart Title Guaranty Company. Doug’s knowledge of real estate and business transactions has proven to be a critical component to the success of the firm.
As a member of the Delaware State Bar Association’s Real and Personal Property Section, Doug previously served three terms as Chairman of the Section and many years as a member of its Executive Committee.
Doug has been actively involved in the Home Builders Association of Delaware and was recently designated a Life Director of the Association. He is a past recipient of the Associate Member of the Year award from the Association. In 2007, Doug was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Delaware. He was elected to serve on the Executive Committee in 2008, was named Vice Chairman in 2009, and named Chairman in 2010. Doug was recently named a Board Member by the Delaware Military Academy. He also continues to serve on the Board of the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO).
He has been recognized as a leading attorney in the field of real estate law by both Chambers USA (2006 through 2009), and Delaware Super Lawyers (2007 through 2009). He is Second Vice President and a member of the Board of Governors of the University & Whist Club of Wilmington, Delaware, and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau’s binding arbitration program for real estate disputes.
