Bayard, P.A., a Meritas® member law firm based in Wilmington Delaware, announced today that attorney Charlene D. Davis, a director with the firm and a member of its executive committee, has been elected to Chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Delaware State Bar Association. She previously served as Vice Chair of the Section.
Ms. Davis joined Bayard in 1988 and focuses her practice on bankruptcy/creditors’ rights and commercial litigation. She regularly represents creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees and debtors in many large bankruptcy cases.

Ms. Davis is a past member of the Advisory Committee to the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, and a past President of the Delaware Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. She also served as a member of the Advisory committee to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals from 1996–1998, and on the Third Circuit’s Bench-Bar Relations Committee. In 1996, she was named as the first recipient of the Caleb R. Layton Service Award by the judges of the Federal District Court in Delaware. From 1989 through 1997, she served as a member of the Federal District Court CJA Blue Ribbon Panel.
Ms. Davis has been recognized by Chambers USA 2009 as a leader lawyer in bankruptcy and restructuring. She was also designated as a Delaware Super Lawyer for 2007, 2008, and 2009 in the areas of bankruptcy & creditor/debtor rights, featured annually in Philadelphia Magazine.
She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a B.A., cum laude, attended the University of Chicago Law School, and earned her J.D., cum laude, from Widener University’s Delaware School of Law in 1984.
