Chambers USA 2013 Ranks Bayard Among Top Firms in Delaware

Bayard, P.A. announced today that Chambers USA 2013 ranked six Bayard lawyers as leading practitioners in multiple practice areas. The firm’s bankruptcy, real estate and intellectual property practices have once again earned high marks. The rankings are compiled based on in-depth interviews with key in-house counsel and private practice attorneys.

Neil B. Glassman and Charlene D. Davis were recognized for their work in the practice area of bankruptcy and restructuring. Richard D. Kirk and Stephen B. Brauerman were recognized for their work in the practice area of intellectual property. Brauerman was also recognized for his corporate litigation practice in the Court of Chancery. Douglas M. Hershman and Marla H. Norton were recognized for their work in the areas of real estate and corporate/M&A & alternative entities, respectively.

Glassman is chairman of the Board of Directors of Bayard and chairs the firm’s bankruptcy group. He focuses his practice on bankruptcy and insolvency law, and insurance and entity law. Glassman regularly represents debtors, official committees of unsecured creditors or equity holders, secured lenders, banks and insurance companies, financial institutions and publicly and privately held businesses in large bankruptcy cases and other insolvency proceedings including insurance company insolvencies. Davis is a director of Bayard. Her practice focus is corporate bankruptcy and commercial litigation. She regularly represents debtors, official committees of unsecured creditors or equity holders, lenders, insurance companies, trustees, and creditors in large bankruptcy cases. She is also an experienced federal litigator and a former Assistant United States Attorney. She is a member of the Special Masters Panel for the United States District Court in Delaware. Davis also currently serves on Widener University School of Law National Advisory Council. Hershman is a director of Bayard. He leads the firm’s diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice has included representations of buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, as well as borrowers in financing transactions. He has handled transactions involving retail shopping centers, office buildings, apartment complexes, hotels and residential subdivisions. He is a licensed issuing agent for Fidelity National Title Insurance Corporation and Old Republic National Title Insurance Company. Hershman currently serves as general counsel to the Delaware Apartment Association. In this role, he directs and administers all legal aspects for the Association. Hershman has been recognized as a leading lawyer in real estate by Chambers USA each year from 2006 through 2013.

Kirk is a director of Bayard. He focuses his practice on general business litigation, intellectual property litigation, administrative law, and alternative dispute resolution. He litigates many intellectual property cases in the United States District Court in Delaware, a premiere venue for such cases. Active within the Delaware legal community, he serves as a member of the Delaware District Court Rules Advisory Committee. He also chaired a special committee of the Superior Court investigating that court’s asbestos and toxic tort docket. Norton is a director of Bayard. She concentrates her practice on alternative business entities (including corporations, limited liability companies, statutory trusts and partnerships), corporate governance, and third party legal opinions. Norton has over 25 years of experience in a variety of corporate and commercial transactions, including securitization transactions, corporate formation and governance, mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation and drafting, franchise advice, captive insurance matters and secured lending. She serves on the Delaware State Bar Association drafting subcommittees responsible for annual updates to the Delaware limited liability company and partnership laws, and the biannual updates to statutory trust laws. Active on several ABA Business Law Section committees, she chairs the ABA Subcommittee on Business Trusts and is active on the drafting taskforce and the editorial board for the ABA Model Shareholders Agreement. Norton has been recognized as a leading lawyer in corporate/M&A & alternative entities each year from 2008 through 2013.

Brauerman is a director of Bayard. He concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate, commercial and intellectual property litigation in Delaware’s state and federal Courts. He has litigated a wide array of cases involving fiduciary duty claims, corporate and alternative entity control disputes, advancement/indemnification, breach of contract, antitrust, securities, patent infringement, copyright infringement, and trademark matters. He also counsels clients concerning the General Corporation Law of the State of Delaware and Delaware’s alternative entity statutes. Brauerman has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine as a “Rising Star” in the practice area of intellectual property litigation in 2012 and 2013. He is new to Chambers USA.
