Stephen B. Brauerman (Steve) is a director at Bayard and co-chair of the firm’s litigation group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate, commercial and intellectual property litigation in Delaware’s state and federal Courts. He has litigated a wide array of cases involving fiduciary duty claims, corporate and alternative entity control disputes, advancement/ indemnification, breach of contract, antitrust, securities, patent infringement, copyright infringement, and trademark matters. Steve also counsels clients concerning the General Corporation Law of the State of Delaware and Delaware’s alternative entity statutes.

Experienced as both lead and Delaware counsel, Steve appears frequently before the United States District Court for the District of Delaware, the Delaware Supreme Court, the Delaware Court of Chancery and the Delaware Superior Court. Steve has also tried cases as lead counsel before the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Since 2012, Super Lawyers has recognized Steve as a Delaware Rising Star in intellectual property litigation. In 2016, 2017 and 2018, he was recognized by The Best Lawyers in America© in the area of intellectual property litigation and in 2018 in corporate law. He was also named in Delaware Today’s Top Lawyers 2016, 2017 and 2018 editions as a top Delaware attorney in civil litigation and intellectual property law. From 2013 through 2019, Chambers USA has recognized Steve in the practice areas of Chancery and Intellectual Property. In the 2015, 2016 and 2019 editions of the IAM Patent 1000 list, Steve was recognized as a top Delaware patent practitioner in the category of litigation and transactionsIn 2017, Steve earned a spot on the Benchmark Litigation Under 40 Hot List for his work on complex litigation in the Court of Chancery and the United States District Court.  Steve was also a 2014 recipient of the Caleb R. Layton III Service Award, chosen by the Judges of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

Steve is a 2010 graduate of the Federal Trial Practice Seminar sponsored by the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and the Federal Bar Association. From 2011-2014, he has served as co-coordinator of the Trial Practice Seminar. Steve currently serves the legal community as vice-chair of the Limited Liability Companies, Partnerships, and Alternative Entities Subcommittee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association; membership chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association; and, Barrister in the Richard S. Rodney American Inn of Court. Steve is the immediate past President, and has also previously served as Vice President, and Secretary of the Delaware Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

While in law school, Steve worked for the Honorable Gerald Bruce Lee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He was also Editor-in-Chief of the American University Law Review (Volume 55).

Steve also serves as a Director of the Reading Assist Institute (a non-profit organization that helps children overcome language-based learning disabilities) and as a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

Curtis P. Bounds

Curtis P. Bounds is a director at Bayard where he is head of the Family Law practice. Curtis focuses on family law matters and practices in the Delaware Family Court in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties.

Curtis concentrates his experience in complex divorce and child custody cases. He also assists clients with pre and post-nuptial agreements, support matters, visitation, and adoption. Curtis is a volunteer for the Office of the Child Advocate, representing children who are abused, neglected or dependent, and he is trained in Alternative Dispute Resolution as a mediator.

Curtis is a member of the American Bar Association Family Law Section, and he is a past Chair of the Delaware Bar Association Family Law Section. He currently serves as the Chair of the Delaware Family Law Commission and is a member of the Delaware Access to Justice Commission. Curtis is a member of the University & Whist Club.

Curtis has lectured and written on family law matters for continuing legal education seminars, adult education classes, public interest groups, and legal publications. Curtis contributes to the Delaware State Bar Association Family Law Section’s annual review of Family Law, and also served as the reporter on Delaware cases in Family Law Quarterly, a publication of the American Bar Association Family Law Section.

In 2018, Curtis was selected again by his peers as a top family law attorney in Delaware Today magazine’s Top Lawyers list. He has been named to The Best Lawyers in America© list for Family Law since 2009. Curtis was named the Best Lawyers® 2015 and 2017 Wilmington, Delaware Family Law “Lawyer of the Year.”
