Six Bayard Attorneys Selected for Inclusion in 2017 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America

Bayard, P.A., a Meritas® member law firm based in Wilmington, Delaware, announced today that six Bayard attorneys have been selected for inclusion in the 2017 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America© as leading practitioners in their respective practice areas.  Neil B. Glassman, Charlene D. Davis and Scott D. Cousins were recognized for their work in bankruptcy and creditor debtor rights / insolvency and reorganization law. Charlene was also recognized in bankruptcy litigation. Richard D. Kirk (Dick) and Stephen B. Brauerman were recognized for their work in intellectual property litigation, with Dick also being recognized in administrative / regulatory law.  Curtis P. Bounds was recognized for family law and named Best Lawyers’ 2017 Wilmington, Delaware Family Law “Lawyer of the Year.” Only a single lawyer in each practice area in each community is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.”

The Best Lawyers in America is one of the most visible peer-review publications in legal professions.  For more than three decades, it has been regarded as the most credible and definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States.  Inclusion in the 2017 Edition is based on an exhaustive peer-review evaluation involving confidential evaluations by top attorneys. Neil B. Glassman is chairman of Bayard’s Board of Directors of Bayard and chairs the firm’s bankruptcy group. He focuses his practice on bankruptcy and insolvency law, and insurance and entity law. Neil regularly represents debtors, official committees of unsecured creditors or equity holders, secured lenders, banks and insurance companies, financial institutions and publicly and privately held businesses in large bankruptcy cases and other insolvency proceedings including insurance company insolvencies. He was first recognized on The Best Lawyers in America list in 2006.

Charlene D. Davis is a director at Bayard and chair of the firm’s Executive Committee. She focuses her practice on corporate bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Charlene regularly represents debtors, official committees of unsecured creditors or equity holders, lenders, insurance companies, trustees, and creditors in large bankruptcy cases. A former Assistant United States Attorney, she is currently a member of the Special Masters Panel for the United States District Court in Delaware. She was first recognized on The Best Lawyers in America list in 2013.

Scott D. Cousins is a director at Bayard with more than 20 years of experience in the restructuring field. He has participated in many of the largest and most complicated business reorganizations, liquidations and distressed sales and acquisitions in Delaware’s state and federal courts. He is also experienced in out of court restructurings and workouts. He has appeared in many bankruptcy jurisdictions across the country. In addition to his restructuring expertise during his years in private practice, Scott has wide-ranging experience in commercial transactions as a result of his role as in-house counsel for two large energy-related companies. Scott has been recognized on The Best Lawyers in America list since 2006.

Richard D. Kirk is a director at Bayard. He focuses his practice on general business litigation, intellectual property litigation, administrative law, and alternative dispute resolution.  Dick’s career began during an age of generalists and as a result, he has appeared in virtually all of Delaware’s courts.  Currently, he focuses his practice in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. Dick has served on and chaired numerous bar committees, court committees and civic organizations, and from 1993-94 served as the then youngest president of the Delaware State Bar Association. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for more than 20 years.

Stephen B. Brauerman is a director at Bayard, who concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate, commercial and intellectual property litigation in Delaware’s state and federal courts. He has litigated a wide array of cases involving fiduciary duty claims, corporate and alternative entity control disputes, advancement/indemnification, breach of contract, antitrust, securities, patent infringement, copyright infringement, and trademark matters. Steve also counsels clients regarding the General Corporation Law of Delaware and Delaware’s alternative entity statutes. This is Steve’s first year being recognized on The Best Lawyers in America list.

Curtis P. Bounds is a director of Bayard.  He concentrates his practice in complex divorce and child custody cases in the Delaware Family Court, and represents clients in structured financial settlements, pre and post nuptial agreements, child support matters, visitation, protection from abuse proceedings, and adoption.  In 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2015, Curtis was designated by a vote of his peers as a top divorce and family law attorney in Delaware Today magazine’s Top Lawyers. He was first listed in The Best Lawyers in America in 2009, and is recognized as the Best Lawyers 2015 and 2017 Wilmington, Delaware Family Law “Lawyer of the Year.”
